Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay

Overview

We Build Strong Nonprofits.

The Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay (NLCTB) teaches nonprofits the skills to operate their businesses through affordable training, coaching, and online resources.

NLCTB is a management support organization (MSO) serving Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, and Hernando counties.

The Nonprofit Leadership Center of Tampa Bay, Inc. (formerly known as the Management Assistance Program, Inc.) was created in 1996 by a consortium of community funding agencies in order to meet an identified community need in the area of working with nonprofit organizations to help them become more effective and sustainable.

Who We are

NLCTB is a 501 (c)(3) organization which is supported through grants, individual and corporate support, and program fees. NLCTB is governed by a board of directors of community leaders who assist in determining the policies and direction of the organization.

NLCTB provides classroom training in all aspects of effective and sustainable nonprofit operations. While there is a fee for most of the programs, NLCTB subsidizes 80% of the cost of the programs offered in order to keep the fees affordable for the participants. Our Cultural Values.

What We Do

NLCTB also connects the nonprofit sector to extensive resources as well as connecting the sector to each other through networking opportunities, round table discussions, and vendors serving nonprofit organizations.

Classroom training is offered throughout the Tampa Bay area and is offered in half day and full day sessions. Programs are offered to meet the needs of all levels of board, staff, and volunteers. New programs are added regularly to meet emerging needs. Four Certificate Programs are offered for those who wish to obtain expertise in a specialized content area.

Training programs, round tables and networking sessions are offered in our Training Center in a convenient Westshore location at 1401 N. Westshore Boulevard, Suite 101.

The presenters are chosen for their expertise in their field and are vetted by the staff of NLCTB prior to being invited to join as a presenter. NLCTB is always interested in meeting new experts who have the potential to teach best practices in their field. Presenters often work for NLCTB on a pro bono basis in order to “give back” to the community.

NLCTB also offers training customized to the precise needs of an organization. This includes custom board training for corporations who wish to prepare their employees to be exemplary board members in the community as well as for existing boards of directors of nonprofit organizations. Custom training is offered for a fee to be determined by the time necessary to prepare and deliver the requested service.

Why We Exist

An effective and sustainable nonprofit sector is critical to the health of a community. NLCTB believes strongly that an educated nonprofit workforce and leadership is the best avenue of success for a strong nonprofit. Peter C. Brinckerhoff states that one of the most important characteristics of a successful nonprofit is “a strong, well-educated staff…Any effective nonprofit needs staff who are advocates for the mission, who manage from the bottom up, and who are constantly trained and educated. There is no investment more necessary or more neglected than staff education and training.”

This is what we believe and this is why we exist.
