Congratulations on your selection to participate in the inaugural Cohort Program of the NLC Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative, sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co.!

Your facilitator, Steve Zimmerman, is a nonprofit consultant and co-author of The Sustainability Mindset. He will lead 10 participating organizations through this process by facilitating a series of 2-hour, virtually facilitated meetings, full-day workshops, and phone coaching sessions. 

As a result of your participation in this intensive, hands-on, 6-month program, we know that your leadership team will:

  • Develop a clear understanding of your dual bottom line – financial viability and mission impact
  • Enhance professional development in financial literacy and organizational planning by learning new techniques and strategies
  • Leverage professional coaching and training to bring innovation and change to your organization. 

And in turn, your team will equip your nonprofit to make and execute the critical programming decisions necessary to maximize financial and human resources and sustain your organization and its impact. 

Expectations and Your Commitment

Your team of 3 will participate in the the 2017 Board & Senior Leadership Conference on November 1st, the Cohort Kickoff on November 2nd, the six virtual and in-person facilitated workshops as outlined in the application packet, and coaching calls.

One of the team members must be the Executive Director/CEO and at least one of the other participants must be a board member. The board member is highly encouraged to attend all sessions in person but at a minimum must attend the events on November 1st and 2nd and the March 2018 Key Messages of the Matrix Map workshop in person (see the Schedule for dates and times).

Your team will complete “homework assignments” using their own programs' impact and financial data.

Templates will be provided by the NLC for these assignments, and your team will spend 4-6 hours between sessions gathering the data and leading discussions with organization leadership. Coaching is available between sessions.
